Canadian Pacific Railway Silver Plated Bread Tray
(very rare – circa 1920's – bought directly from CPR in the mid 70's)
CPR exited the passenger train business in the early 1970's. They sold all of their silverware used in their dining cars through their 'in house' shop called "CP Bygones". This bread tray was purchased directly from CP Bygones by this seller and stored for 30+ years. This tray was used in the dining car for table service of bread, crackers etc. Tray is 11.5 inches long by 5.5 inches wide and the ends are gracefully raised and curved. Item is quadruple plated and has stood up very well for its decades of use. The CPR logo is very well preserved (see close up photo 3). On the underside is engraved: 'E & Co. Elkington Plate' and 'A T Wiley & Co. Montreal' Underside of the tray is engraved with serial number 23512 and the Elkington shield and four other symbols to the right (see last photo).
