CPR only built 14 of these units.
These units numbered in the CP 10 and 20 series were Canadian Locomotive Company built 44-ton D-T-C (Diesel Torque Converter) 44H44A1 type switchers, or commonly named DT-2. They were built between 1957 and 1960, and were powered by 2 250 Hp. Caterpillar D-337 engines. They were all retired or sold between 1968 and 1979.
CPR #11 was a Class HS-5a and her serial number was #2982. She was retired in September 1972 and scrapped at CP's Weston Shops sometime after 1975.
An interesting side bar is CP #10 and #11 were originally constructed by CLC under serial numbers #2956 and #2957. CP rejected these units because of overweight. New units were constructed to become CP #10 and #11. Parts of the original #10 and #11 were used to construct DT-2's #17 and #18.
This plate is in superb condition with the orange background paint in the diamond centre still intact. This set of plates was purchased directly from Canadian Pacific Bygones store in 1977. The CP Bygones store tag is shown in photo #3.
All three photos of the engine show her painted in the Maroon and Grey 'block' scheme. Photo #4 shows her at Portage La Prairie - date unknown from the Bruce Chapman collection. Photos #5 & #6 show her at the Weston Shops in Winnipeg, MB in May 1975 - 3 years after she was retired. Photos by John Leeming. All photos courtesy of mountainrailway.com.
This plate set is very rare, especially with all four of the mounting holes in such good condition.
