History and details about locomotive CP 902/2203, courtesy Ray Verdone of cprsteam.org

CP902: This locomotive was built by Canadian Locomotive Company, Kingston, Ontario, April 1911. Its builder's plate number was 974. CP902 was originally built as number CP2702. It entered CPR service as a brand new locomotive on that date (April 1911). CP2702 was changed October 1913: - CP2702 was renumbered to CP902. It was scrapped October 1954 after 43 years and 6 months of service. Locomotive CP902 was of class D10g.

CP2203: This locomotive was built by Canadian Pacific Railway Company, Angus Shops, Montreal, Quebec, September 1906. Its builder's plate number was 1483. CP2203 was originally built as number CP1103. It entered CPR service as a brand new locomotive on that date (September 1906). CP1103 was changed December 1910: - CP1103 was renumbered to CP1003. CP1003 was changed September 1913: - CP1003 was renumbered to CP2203. CP2203 was changed June 1927: - Cylinder dimensions were changed from 21x28 to 22.5x28 inches. The locomotive was reclassified from G1c to G1r. It was scrapped August 1960 after 53 years and 11 months of service. Locomotive CP2203 was of class G1c.

CPR stamped every bell with the locomotive number on which it was installed. One can often observe the renumbering history of locomotives reflected on the bell. In this case, the bell appears to have an interesting history. However a good part of that history is incomplete. The numbers 902 and 2203 are plainly visible and the history of those 2 locomotives follows. However the numbers 65 (right hand side) and 27 (top) are also visible although appear to be a part of another number which, at this time cannot be determined.
