CPR Fairbanks Morse Builder's Plate #2971

This builder's plate was removed by CPR from Fairbanks Morse H16-44
unit #8722 in 1973.

Built by CLC in 1957 with serial #2971. The engine was a class DRS-16j and was wrecked at MP 3.1 Cranbrook sub on Jan. 19th, 1971. The unit was retired in 1973 and subsequently scrapped the same year. Photo #2 was taken in Nelson, B.C. in the winter of 1966 by Bob Loat. Photo #3 was taken in Penticton in 1969 (photographer unknown). Both photos courtesy - Bill Sanderson Collection with permission from www.cprdieselroster.com The plate comes with the "Powered by Fairbanks Morse" bar also taken off the same unit. Both plates were purchased by the seller directly from the CPR in the mid 70's from their 'Bygones Shop'. These plates are very rare and seldom are for sale. There are some small score marks on the bottom mounting hole and some vertical scratches on the plate (with the most noticable one over the 'T' in Kingston). The 'Powered by FM' plate lettering is in very good shape but is covered partially in black paint or heavy dirt (see photo 1). Both plates are in their 'as bought' condition but are easy to clean.
